We deliver three core programs in our two Harlem locations: Our main site on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. and at PS 36 on Morningside Drive.
Our Preschool Program serves four-and five-year-old children from eleven neighborhood day care centers and Head Start programs at our main site, equipping them with important early literacy skills and concepts needed for success in elementary school. Twice a week from September through June, preschoolers come to our main site in groups of 40-45 and spend 90 minutes engaged in conversation, letter and word games, singing and dancing, and storybook reading.
Our School-Day Program at PS 36 serves the school’s full population of children from prekindergarten through first grade, helping them to develop foundational skills and concepts needed to thrive in school. Children come to our program twice a week to take part in 30 minutes of Small Reading Group activities, 30 minutes of the computer-based Waterford Early Learning Program, and 30 minutes of Creative Dramatics activities.
Our After-School Program serves children in grades K-5 from 18 elementary schools at our main program site and children in grades K-4 at PS 36. Students participate for three hours every school-day afternoon. They receive a healthy snack or a hot meal, homework help, and a rigorous program of lessons and activities that enable them to overcome their obstacles to successful literacy development.
The Reading Team does not charge a fee for its programs.
